Introducing our latest leadership project: red knot scholars

It turns out that not only are birds real, they are also among the longest-distance migrants in the animal kingdom. The Red Knot is one such bird - a powerful symbol of freedom, strength and tenacity - dispositions we all need to thrive in today’s ever-changing world.

Need an extracurricular that aligns with your interest in global studies, values student-centered projects, and allows you to really stand out on your college applications?

Introducing Red Knot Scholars!

Motivated by the negative discourse and mis/disinformation around migrants in the during the 2024 U.S. elections, we created an interactive inquiry-based curriculum around migration issues for motivated high school students who are interested in learning more about immigration policy and advocacy, international humanitarian work and philanthropy.

Red Knot Scholars

We are launching the program in early 2025 with a small group of high school student leaders (9th - 12th grade) to engage in an interactive 8-week course (the “9,000-Mile Journey”). After successful completion, each student will receive a certificate confirming their community service hours and a personalized letter of recommendation to support their college application and professional portfolio.

“Learning about refugee issues was eye-opening! Not only did the experience change the way I think about U.S. policy, it made me more interested in and able to discuss foreign policy work as a potential major in college.“ - Alex French, participant, Roosevelt High School, Washington (now at Oberlin College)

“Wow! I learned SO much through this program. Not only did I get to practice facilitating meetings, I understand what it means for refugees to access educational support in and outside of their camps. This program has motivated me and my friends more than any class I’ve taken!” - Ara Traina, participant, Stevenson School, California (now at Middlebury College)
